What We Believe: Our Church
Membership Covenant
Now that you have received Jesus Christ as your Lord
and Savior and agree with the mission of Columbus
Christian Assembly, we encourage you to commit
yourself to the Lord and to the other believers in
the assembly according to the following covenant. As we said
before, in order to become a member of the universal
body of Christ, it only takes saving faith in Jesus
Christ. As far as we are concerned, this also
automatically makes you a member of the Columbus
Christian Assembly. However, we feel that it is
important to give you our view of what normal
membership in our congregation looks like on a day
to day basis.
Participate in the mission of the church
- By inviting the unchurched
“Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into
the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in,
that my house may be filled.’” (Luke 14:23).
- By sharing the Word of God with others
“Preach the Word! Be ready in season and out of
season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all
longsuffering and teaching” (2 Tim. 4:2).
- By acts of service toward those in need
“As we have opportunity, let us do good to all,
especially toward those who are of the household of
the faith” (Gal. 6:10).
- By joining a home group
“So continuing daily with one accord in the temple,
and breaking bread from house to house, they ate
their food with gladness and simplicity of heart”
(Acts 2:46).
Keep the unity of the church
- By loving one another
“Finally, all of you be of one mind, having
compassion for one another; love as brothers, be
tenderhearted, be courteous” (1 Pet. 3:8).
- By not gossiping
“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but
what is good for necessary edification, that it may
impart grace to the hearers” (Eph. 4:29).
- By respecting and obeying the leaders whom the
Lord has placed in the church
“Obey your leaders, and submit to them; for they
keep watch over your souls, as those who will give
an account. Let them do this with joy and not with
grief, for this would be unprofitable for you” (Heb.
13:17).
Uphold the integrity of the church
- By believing the statement of faith
“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be
strong” (1 Cor. 16:13).
- By living a life that honors Jesus Christ
“…Let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of
Christ…” (Phil. 1:27a).
Share the responsibility of the church
- By financial offerings
“On every Lord’s Day [Sunday], each of you should
put aside something from what you have earned during
the week, and use it for this offering. The amount
depends on how much the Lord has helped you earn…”
(1 Cor. 16:2a THE LIVING BIBLE)
- By regularly attending meetings
“Let us consider one another in order to stir up
love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of
ourselves together, as is the manner of some…” (Heb.
10:24-25a).
- By volunteering the use of your gifts to serve
“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one
another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of
God” (1 Pet. 4:10).
